Certainly, it’s not Rudy Giuliani’s fault that Tania Head (pictured below), former president of the World Trade Center Survivor’s Network, turns out to be exaggerating if not outright lying about her experiences on September 11, 2001. Ms. Head, according to the New York Times, may have been pulling everyone’s leg including speaking groups, college student and most of all the families of actual 9/11 survivors. She wouldn’t be the first one to have lied about their experience on September 11. Giuliani, to his credit, can’t really be criticized for lying about his movements that day. It’s pretty well documented he was downtown and involved in the incident as a mayor.
But Ms. Head’s fallacy is part of a larger treat altogehter, which is that so many people really have exploited this tragedy for personal, financial or political aggrandizement. Ms. Head may be one of those people who’s life feels so empty that she has to coopt the pain of others to feel any sense of worth.
Giuliani–I’ll hammer this one home for months–has used 9/11 as HIS persona. He’s the strong man, the tough leader, battle tested and all…Yeah right…Until one of his advisors tells him to stop doing so, Mr. Giuliani will continue to exploit the tragedy. I’ll seek to point out this week any things he may say publically 9-11 in his public appearances.
